‘The 10 years, it’s been magical’: Shaw Charity Classic marks milestone anniversary yyc ShawCharityClassic
At the initial instalment, back in 2013, they erased the record for the largest give in PGA Tour Champions history. They’ve shattered their own mark several times since. Even when the 2020 edition had to be postponed due to pandemic shutdowns, they doled out loads of loot.
“I think we all look back and none of us ever really imagined, including my dad when he started this event, that it would turn out to be as successful as it is and that the city would love it as much and that we would have raised as much money for charity as we have. It’s pretty amazing,” Jim Riddell said. “I don’t even think he expected this to turn out the way it did. When he was still alive, it was something that amazed him, how much success it had. And I think he’d be super proud of it now.
“I wish I was playing more this year, but this is one that I wouldn’t skip,” he beamed. “I like this tournament a lot.”
