The ad pokes fun at the team wearing real Thiel uniforms, but it is clearly not the real Thiel. The plot is over the top, intended to be lighthearted and even inspirational.

Around campus and in Greenville, a western Pennsylvania town about 80 miles north of Pittsburgh and 80 miles east of Cleveland, the commercial has been generally received positively — it is national publicity for a small college that would not get it otherwise. As Thiel fans head to the exits, a fan in a hoodie with the Tomcats’ real logo is handed a bottle of Coke by his friend. The fan takes a look at the bottle and sees a Tomcat logo on the label. He stands up.“So, we’re not the best. Our kicker stubbed his toe on the ball. Our waterboy’s dehydrated, and I’m pretty sure our mascot has his costume on backwards,” the fan continued, as a Thiel player barreled into a mascot with a Tomcat head.
Cut to a satellite in space, where two astronauts are clinking Coke cans, one with an Auburn logo, the other with an Alabama logo. The fan continues: “So fans? They’re always on their team’s team.He thrusts the Coke in the air and takes a triumphant swig, to cheers from the fans at the stadium and those watching on TV.
“Coke has a lot of resources at their disposal, but they wanted to keep this portion of the commercial as authentic as possible,” Richard Orr, Thiel’s executive director of communications and marketing, told the Greenville Record-Argus.
