‘A Thousand and One’ is a thrilling evolution for Teyana Taylor, which sees the singer burrow deep into a tricky dramatic role with aplomb.

calmly glides through the years, as Inez retreats into the background and Terry, almost ready to fly the nest, emerges as his own autonomous being. As 17-year-old Terry, Cross shows a keen understanding of teenage oscillation. Terry is careful around his mom, trying to tuck under her wing while also asserting himself. He attempts young-man swagger with his friends, but reveals a softer side to a crush, Simon .
