ICYM: A second Democrat is running for the Senate seat held by Republican Ted Cruz. U.S. Representative Colin Allred was the first Democrat to announce in May and Monday, State Senator Roland Gutierrez officially announced his campaign.

Gutierrez, who has pushed for police accountability and tougher gun laws after the Uvalde school shooting, announced Monday, July 10, 2023, he will run for U.S. Senate in 2024.
