The festival, which is being held in Austin through March 16, has drawn controversy as some small bands and indie performers have chosen to boycott it due to the United States military’s support for Israel in the Israel-Hamas war,Some performers are explaining their decisions on social media.She said this was “in protest of SXSW’s ties to the defense industry and in support of the Palestinian people,” CNN wrote.
Governor Greg Abbott responded on the social media platform X after several performers boycotted the festival. “Bands pull out of SXSW over U.S. Army sponsorship. Bye. Don’t come back. Austin remains the HQ for the Army Futures Command. San Antonio is Military City USA. We are proud of the U.S. military in Texas. If you don’t like it, don’t come here,” Abbott said.We are proud of the U.S. military in Texas.We are an organization that welcomes diverse viewpoints.
