“The fact that I was prohibited from presenting evidence to defend myself reveals that this shameful process was curated from the start as an act of political retribution.” The impeachment articles against Paxton were given to the state Senate on Monday. Paxton has denied any wrongdoing. Former President Donald Trump released a video on social media following the impeachment vote in defense of Paxton, calling Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan a"RINO," an acronym for"Republican in name only."
