Prairie View becomes first HBCU-led National Center for Infrastructure Transformation

Prairie View's center will be joined by researchers from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, Texas A&M University, Rutgers University, Michigan State University, Arizona State University and Blinn College.The $20 million stretches for five years, after which Prairie View can continue its work with the financial help of other agencies or corporations.
The Texas A&M University System has pledged $2.5 million to ease the burden of the match, only weeks after former Prairie View A&M President Ruth SimmonsOn Monday, Sharp said he has considered it one of his largest goals as chancellor to increase the system's investments in Prairie View.
"This is the beginning of what we want to do," Sharp said."This is the introduction to some serious money in Washington, D.C. ... I guarantee you, you just got the attention of every not just HBCU, but every university in the country."
