General manager Nick Caserio has not given any indication of whether Smith’s job is safe beyond this year. He fired Texans coach David Culley after a 4-13 season in 2021. It was Culley’s lone season. If he were to fire Smith, it would be the third coach he has fired in three years. In Smith’s defense, the Texans were not built to win this season. They start a number of rookies on both sides of the ball, and they don’t have a franchise quarterback.
