Tesla believes roughly 10 per cent of the recalled vehicles are affected by the issue. The problem has been identified as a loose fastener that can cause the steering wheel to disconnect from the steering column; if the steering wheel comes off, well, the driver could lose control of the vehicle, potentially causing an accident.
Owners can take their vehicle to a Tesla Service centre to have the fastener inspected. If needed, a new one will be installed and torqued to the correct specs.
