The recall includes 2016-2023 Model S, Model X; 2017-2023 Model 3; and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD Beta) software or pending installation, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The software also may cause the vehicle to be 'unpredictable' at intersections.
“The FSD Beta system may allow the vehicle to act unsafe around intersections, such as traveling straight through an intersection while in a turn-only lane, entering a stop sign-controlled intersection without coming to a complete stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a steady yellow traffic signal without due caution.
In addition, the system may respond insufficiently to changes in posted speed limits or not adequately account for the driver’s adjustment of the vehicle’s speed to exceed posted speed limits.” Tesla, “while not concurring with the agency’s analysis” opted to issue a voluntary recall “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the documents. Tesla said it is not aware of any injuries or deaths attributed to the issue.
Tesla will release and over-the-air software update, free of charge. Owners are expected to be notified by April 15, according to the documents. Owners can call Tesla customer service at 877-798-3752 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 for more information. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
