The company's slick charging adapter is in the wild and operational now, with more coming soon.

. Unfortunately, the rest of the automotive industry seems to prefer going against a user-friendly experience and stick with the bulky Combined Charging System plug.To enable existing Tesla Superchargers to charge vehicles with CCS ports, Tesla developed a new charging plug docking case with a small built-in, self-locking NACS-CCS1 adapter. For Tesla drivers, the charging experience remains unchanged.

You still simply pull the NACS plug from the dock, plug in, and then charging and billing are handled automatically. For non-Tesla drivers, you must initiate the charging session through the Tesla app, and then the stall releases the adapter. It seems like a seamless process.First,"there's an app for everything", so it's no surprise that you have to download the Tesla app on your iOS or Android device and set up an account.

Tesla is billing non-Tesla drivers a higher charging fee than Tesla drivers. By default, non-Tesla users are in the pay-per-use plan, and Tesla offers a $12.99 per month membership which unlocks the lower rate for Tesla owners, which currently is $0.10 cents per kWh difference. We'll find out more once we can get our hands on a Supercharger with Magic Dock to charge our non-Tesla long term test vehicles.
