There is no indication that the regime has any intention of upholding international human rights law

. Thousands of Hazara families have been driven out of Daikundi, Helmand and Kandahar in a bloody ethnic-cleansing operation that loudly echoes the persecution the Shia minority endured during the Taliban terror of the 1990s. Earlier this week, the regime’s interior minister Sirajuddin Haqqani — a UN-sanctioned terrorist with a $10 million American bounty on his head — met with the families of Taliban suicide bombers, promising them cash and land.

Afghanistan’s 38 million people are now effectively Taliban hostages. Mass starvation is already looming — about 97 per cent of the population is set to sink below the poverty line and nearly half the Afghan people are reliant on humanitarian aid, according to the UN Development program. China, Iran and Russia have already extended de facto diplomatic recognition to the Islamic Emirate, making de jure recognition a moot point. Last month, the Biden administration announced it would allow U.S. aid agencies and private organizations to resume sending food and medicine to Afghanistan. You’re just not supposed to deal directly with any Taliban official directly named in a U.S. terrorism blacklist.

China’s purchases of sanctioned Iranian oil reached record highs this year. Iran has been sending an average of 306,000 barrels of oil per day to China for more than a year now, usually by circuitous routes on ships flying flags of convenience. Several Arab countries are beginning to resume diplomatic ties with the Assad regime in Damascus.
