Terminator: Dark Fate had its fair share of issues, but the dark Terminator reboot got one thing right and Terminator should hold onto this change.
While Terminator: Dark Fate got a lot of creative choices wrong, the Terminator franchise installment did nail one important detail that Terminator 7 should keep. Terminator: Dark Fate was not the Terminator franchise revival that fans had hoped for before its 2019 release.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY However, while Terminator 7 movie premise needs a more stripped-back storyline than its predecessors, there is one thing that any potential Terminator sequel should borrow from Terminator: Dark Fate. 1984’s original The Terminator was a brutal, hard-R sci-fi horror with a slew of bloody deaths, and even its lighter, more action-oriented first sequel held onto this adults-only rating to allow for moments of shocking darkness and gore.
Terminator 7 Needs Terminator: Dark Fate’s R-Rating The decision to make Terminator: Dark Fate a dark, violent R-rated outing made the movie stand out from the rest of the sequels. While killing off John Connor in Terminator: Dark Fate’s opening scene was a divisive decision among the fandom, opening a Terminator project with the main character’s violent death was undeniably an effective shock and would not have worked nearly so well if it weren’t for the movie’s R-rating.
Ultimately, an R-rating alone was not enough to salvage Terminator: Dark Fate’s problems. However, if a smaller-budget, less convoluted Terminator reboot were to offer the franchise a new lease of life, this potential Terminator would benefit from Terminator: Dark Fate bringing back the R-rating.
