A man is dead and another man is in the hospital after a reported homicide led to a shooting involving Tempe police near 48th Street and Southern Avenue.

Tempe police say they were originally called to the scene near 48th Street and Southern Avenue for a reported homicide.The caller told police she believed her son had shot her husband.
Police say after the 55-year-old initially pointed the gun at himself, he then turned the gun toward police, which is when an officer shot the man.The man, who police say is alive, was taken to the hospital for his injuries. His condition is not yet known.When officers went into the home after the shooting, they found a man dead inside the home.Police say the victim inside the home was the stepfather of the man who was shot by police.
