SYDNEY — Cooper Williams may be a first-year player on the Calgary Buffaloes on paper, but he’s certainty not playing like one.
“We had chemistry when they first put us together, which was good,” said Williams. “The first couple of games we had a lot of points and they kept us together and it’s carried throughout the year.”Williams had 53 goals and 78 points in 28 games with the CBHA Rangers under-15 ‘AA’ program during the 2021-22 season.
In the playoffs with the Buffaloes, Williams was a key part to the club’s success, finishing second on the team in scoring with eight goals and 15 points in 12 games, only behind Matthews. Along with his teammates, the Calgary product also credits his strong rookie season on having experience attending a Western Hockey League training camp.“It was really great to get there and to be able to experience that at a young age,” said Williams, who was selected in the second-round, No. 41 overall, by the Saskatoon Blades at the 2023 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Nobody puts themselves over the team and that’s why we’ve had the success that we’ve had,” said Williams. “We will do whatever it takes to win as a team.”
