Boy facing five weapon-related charges
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A 15-year-old boy has been charged with weapons offences after police arrested him outside a St. John’s high school Monday afternoon.
Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers attended Holy Heart on Bonaventure Avenue around 2 p.m. in response to a report of a youth with a weapon, as the school went into secure mode. Police located the boy outside the building and seized the weapon — which wasn’t a firearm — from him. He has been charged with two counts each of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon, and a single count of possessing a prohibited weapon.
Under the Canadian Criminal Code, a prohibited weapon can be a spring-loaded knife or another object designed or intended to cause harm or to intimidate.
