And what about freedom of speech, freedom of religion, parents’ rights, due process of law and property rights? When these impede the new equity/social justice agenda, they can and are being violated. Rather than protecting us from government overreach, the charter is being interpreted to justify it. These are all now just “reasonable limits.” Just ask those arrested and prosecuted during the truckers’ freedom convoy.

The charter — a parchment document — has not caused the charter revolution. Nor have nine judges sitting in a marble temple on the South bank of the Ottawa River. At least not by themselves.Article content
