His faith in the location and his focus on providing the best experiences of food and wines has enabled him to serve seven dinners and five lunches every week for Teatro’s long history.
Purposeful growth within the restaurant industry saw Berloni acquire another heritage building in Sunnyside, where he opened Vendome Café and its neighbour ice cream and doughnut shop Holy Cow. When 8Avenue Place was built, he took advantage of the huge new tower and its large employee count to open Cuccina, a grab-and-go bistro on the ground floor. Its success caused him to open another location for Alforno Bakery, followed by E.A.T. .
Mia Berloni has been working for her father since she was 18, including summer work while she was attending Queen’s University in Toronto. Familiar with all aspects of the business, including a spell as general manager of Alforno, she is taking over responsibility for a large employee count of 61 at Teatro and just under 200 in the group’s holdings.
