Northern Ireland's cycling team for the Commonwealth Games features five debutants with diverse backgrounds and notable accomplishments in road, track, BMX, cyclo-cross, and para-cycling, including an Olympic reserve and a national champion.
Five cyclists will make their Commonwealth Games debuts for Team NI in Glasgow this summer, representing Northern Ireland on the international stage. The team includes a mix of experienced and emerging talents, each with distinctive achievements across road, track, and para-cycling disciplines.
One standout is a 22-year-old who was a reserve for the 2024 Olympics after playing a pivotal role in helping Team Ireland's women qualify for the team pursuit event for the first time. She claimed the 2022 Irish junior road race title and finished fourth in the Junior World Championships elimination race; she is now set to compete in the scratch, points, and elimination races at the Games.
Another member, aged 21, began in BMX racing before transitioning to road racing, earning two sprint victories at the Gracia in the Czech Republic and a win at the National Circuit Championships. A third cyclist, 20 years old, rides for Team Farto - Kiroot and has raced across road, track, and cyclo-cross circuits, demonstrating versatility with top-15 finishes at the National Championships Ireland WE road race and the Région Pays de la Loire Tour - Féminin at junior and U23 levels.
The squad also includes a 25-year-old who has competed internationally for Ireland in various road cycling events, highlighted by a sixth-place stage two finish at last year's Tour of Kosovo. Completing the group is a C2 para-cyclist who has recently achieved national and international success, including a triple podium finish at the German Open Paracycling Track Championships. Together, these athletes reflect a broad spectrum of cycling expertise and promise to contribute significantly to Team NI's Commonwealth Games campaign
