ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Team Broken Earth has received $250,000 in funding to help expand health care in rural, remote and Indigenous communities across the province.

The Northpine Foundation investment in the medical charity best known for its global disaster outreach initiatives since forming in 2010, will launch new training programs for health-care providers and first responders to help improve long-term health outcomes for women and children. Many Newfoundland and Labrador health-care facilities in worse shape than St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital — will they be replaced, too?President Art Rideout said the organization spent pandemic downtime exploring ways to put their education model to work on Canadian soil like they have in so many places around the world.

"We have worked hard to help identify the needs that are unique to each local community and ensure we work with those communities to drive lasting, sustainable change," Rideout stated.
