Nick Taylor of Canada delivered another dramatic finish Sunday at the Sony Open, chipping in for eagle on the 18th hole to force a playoff and ultimately defeat Nico Echavarria. Taylor , who trailed for much of the day, birdied the playoff hole after a brilliant pitch shot. Echavarria stumbled on the playoff hole, missing his birdie putt after an impressive approach shot. This victory sends Taylor to the Masters again, a welcome reward after a disappointing end to last season.
\Echavarria, who won in Japan last fall and finished one shot behind at Sea Island at the end of last year, expressed disappointment but acknowledged that one bad putt shouldn't define a great week. Meanwhile, Stephan Jaeger and J.J. Spaun both found themselves in contention until the final three holes, ultimately falling short. Jaeger's drive on the 16th landed out-of-bounds, while Spaun made a costly bogey on the 17th. \The tournament saw a tight leaderboard throughout the day, with 15 players separated by three shots at the start.
