It's a major throwback to *that* safety pin numberIt's safe to say that at any music awards event with Taylor Swift in attendance, it's likely the singer will take homeone trophy. The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, held last night in New Jersey, were no exception, with Taylor taking an impressive nine wins.
We could go on about how significant this moment is – after all, she's now only two wins away from joining Madonna as the biggest winner of all time at the VMAs – but we're actually here to talk about Taylor's outfit for the occasion. The star always pulls it out of the bag with her Grammys looks, so we had high hopes – and luckily, she didn't let us down.
Taylor wore a custom Atelier Versace gown, with the halterneck style featuring ruched details, a thigh-high slit and signature gold Medusa buttons down the entire length. An open back with crossed straps embellished with further Medusa buttons completed the design.Taylor styled the dress with black strappy sandals and layered multiple gold chain necklaces.
If her hair was a throwback, her dress really had us going back in time, as it reminded us of *that* iconic Elizabeth Hurley safety-pin dress. The actress made headlines when she wore the daring look back in 1994, while accompanying her then-boyfriend Hugh Grant to the premiere of his filmFeaturing a similar neckline, leg slit, and gold detailing , the comparisons aren't that surprising given both dresses were designed by Versace.
