into its home at 59 Harvey Road in St. John's. It's a win-win for both sides, as it will reduce monthly expenses for each business. Their hours of operation also do not really overlap. Newfoundland Donut Company usually closes at 4 or 4:30 p.m., and Black Cat begins to offer pickup slots in 15-minute increments at 4 p.m. Both businesses are open Wednesday through Sunday.
"There's a little crossover there, but it works fine," said Terri Pittman, co-owner of the donut shop."We thought it'd be pretty cool. We thought people would really love it that we're a donut shop at daytime and pizza shop at night. Everyone seems to love it so far." The window at the Newfoundland Donut Company shop on Harvey Road has been updated to let folks know about Black Cat Pizzeria presence there as well. - Andrew Robinson
Both businesses are relatively new. Newfoundland Donut Company is the brainchild of Pittman and Stephanie Fowler. They were living in Halifax and noticed during the COVID-19 pandemic how well small independent donut shops were doing there. "There were two donut shops in Halifax that we loved to go to, and a lot of our friends loved it," Pittman said."It was very popular and they were on the same block. Every time you'd go there, there was massive lineups ... We always said, 'Oh, there's nothing in Newfoundland like this,' and we thought Newfoundlanders would really like something like that.
