Tarkowski offers many of the same traits, but should be considerably more robust given he has missed just five games across the last three seasons combined.It’s clear the former Burnley and Brentford man loves defending. He’ll head anything that moves , frequently make defensive actions out of possession , and is active in getting tight to his man .On the ball, he has been used to playing long without too much regard for keeping possession.
But while he adapted perfectly to the demands of Dyche-ball, the defender has always been a cultured and progressive passer despite not always displaying such qualities in Lancashire. “James played in central midfield against some very good teams during that summer. He was skillful and you could see there was something special for a young lad playing against men.”
By 2014, when his progress at Oldham attracted the attention of then League One outfit Brentford, Tarkowski was starting to flourish. The former Goodison defender, himself remembered for graceful displays on Merseyside, was Brentford’s assistant boss at the time.
