A tanker truck driver died Tuesday after hitting a car and crashing into a tree in the 7300 block of East Broad Street on the Far East Side.
The driver of a tanker truck believed to be carrying biohazard from either portable toilet or septic tank cleaning died Tuesday after striking another vehicle and crashing head-on into a tree in front of an office building on East Broad Street on Columbus' Far East Side.
The tanker continued west for a short distance, also traveling up over the curb and through grass in front of the office building before crashing head-on into a tree, the sheriff's office said. Two people in the Honda Civic were taken to nearby Mount Carmel East Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The sheriff's office had not identified anyone involved in the crash Tuesday.
Because of the contents of the tanker truck, there was an initial concern about a potential hazmat situation from the leaking tanker truck. Emergency responders in hazmat suits assessed the situation before the investigation and removal of the vehicles proceeded.
