Tanana Valley State Forest reopens to motorized use on July 12.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Department of Natural Resources announced, beginning Tuesday, July 12 at 1 p.m. the Tanana Valley State Forest is reopening up the forest to motorized vehicles. As of 8 a.m. several logging roads have already opened.
The forest was closed to all motorized access on June 29, per the Tanana Road Closer Order, because of the danger of new fire starts in the area. The Department of Public Safety is reminding those who have bear baiting stations in the forest that you have seven days to remove them. If the stations remain after July 19, owners can face a citation from Alaska Wildlife Troopers.
Department of Natural Resources continues to recommend, “Using motorized use only during the cooler times of the day, early morning and overnight. The Tanana Valley State Forest remains dry, wildfires are creating smoky conditions, and the fire danger is very high.”
