Tammy Beaumont hit a half-century as The Blaze beat Lancashire Thunder in a low-scoring match to go top of the Women's T20 Blast table. The England international top-scored with 59 as The Blaze posted 135-9 at Trent Bridge, before Charli Knott 's career-best 4-17 helped seal a narrow 15-run win, despite 49 from Thunder skipper Ellie Threlkeld.
Somerset moved up to third, level on points with former leaders Surrey, as they eased past winless Warwickshire by five wickets at Taunton. Niamh Holland struck 42 as Somerset eased home with 22 balls to spare replying to the visitors' below-par 123-8. Maia Bouchier smashed 87 and Amanda-Jade Wellington took 5-18, including a hat-trick, as Hampshire defeated Essex to dent their hopes of reaching the top-three qualifying spots.
But the feat was trumped by Australian all-rounder Knott who turned the game with a triple-wicket maiden in the seventh over of Thunder's reply, including the key dismissal of her compatriot Meg Lanning . Threlkeld kept the visitors in the hunt with 49 from just 36 balls, but she fell to Grace Ballinger in the 17th over attempting a sixth boundary.
Georgia Elwiss then cleaned up the tail to give Blaze a fifth win from six and move them a point clear of Surrey. Meg Austin and Mary Taylor top-scored with 31 apiece, but the visitors, who had won the toss, struggled to build partnerships. Bex Odgers got the reply off to a flyer with 25 off 16 balls, including five boundaries, before Holland took over, helping Somerset rack up 52-2 in the powerplay.
The in-form all-rounder struck five boundaries in a 31-ball knock of 42 and dominated a third-wicket stand of 54 with Anika Learoyd as the hosts condemned Warwickshire to a sixth successive defeat. Bouchier, like Beaumont, was not selected for England's T20 World Cup squad, but responded with the highest score of this year's Blast, batting almost right through thetop three before Wellington dismissed Jodi Grewcock, Flo Miller and Sophia Smale in consecutive deliveries.
The result moves Hampshire up to fifth, above Essex on net run rate, and within six points of the top three, having played a game less.
