As the 2023-24 Seattle Kraken season comes to a close, it's time to take a look at what comes next.
Thu, April 18th 2024 at 10:02 AMThe Seattle Kraken celebrated an amazing season Thursday night with Fan Appreciation Night. The team was presented with awards, threw signed fish into the crowd for eager fans and even gave their jerseys straight off their backs to lucky fans. The Kraken didn't win the game, but the atmosphere in the arena was lighthearted and fun regardless.
"When we look at those things, we'll see if there's areas we can improve our team as we head into next season. Because like everybody else we want to be back in the playoffs next year." Francis is aware of all that and it will factor into the changes he implements this offseason, but it doesn't change the goal.
Francis mentioned to us in October a step back was always possible given the 2023 playoff team saw a number of players all achieve career highs in goals and assists among other unexpected lofty stats. Now, the hope and the expectation was always the playoffs this year, but it does lend to the notion that perhaps a step forward is ahead in the future.
"Hockey is a little different than other pro sports, it takes a little bit more time for these kids to get there because you're drafting them at 18 years old. It takes time for them to develop physically and mentally and their skills. So we understand that we have great fan support, we understand that we want to put a product on the ice that they can be proud of. And we would love nothing more than to give them playoff hockey.
Those guys, in theory, will continue to grow and develop. Wright's success in that two-week stretch earlier this month was absolutely aided by playing with guys like Jordan Eberle and Jaden Schwartz. That will only get better.
