A Taiwanese pop singer, songwriter, and actor has been found guilty of disseminating false information after sharing a social media post earlier this year claiming that cannabis can kill COVID-19.
The post was reported to police by an unknown informant shortly after it appeared on Hsieh’s account, and the singer was brought in within weeks and questioned by authorities on February 24. In the ruling, the judge stated that Hsieh was responsible for disseminating false information about the global pandemic, saying the post catalyzed a public panic. Hsieh will have the opportunity to appeal the ruling.
