SYDNEY, N.S. — The developer of a major commercial and residential complex on the Sydney waterfront has re-jigged some of its plans — including the addition of a hotel.
And instead of three phases as the Cape Breton Post was initially told last year, Edgewater will now be a two-phase development. Doug Doucet, the owner and founder of Doucet Developments, told the Cape Breton Post at Port Days that while the new renderings are the plan for now, “nothing is finalized until a shovel goes into the ground.”
The boutique hotel portion in the same building — expected to be under a hotel chain — will be six stories high and hold 130 rooms. Doucet added the company is considering three floors of condos on top of the hotel. “Our question was: what do you think should be done with this space?” said MacLennan during his Ports Day presentation.MacLennan then presented a list of potential attractions at Edgewater, based on Doucet Developments’ conversations in the community.
Doucet reiterated that those development ideas are still just those for now: ideas that could be incorporated into building plans.
