Police said the suspect hit a utility pole, taking down powerlines in the SW Houston area near Renwick Drive and Gulfton Drive.

An investigation is underway after a police chase crashed out and took down power lines in southwest Houston on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.The pursuit started at about 12:04 p.m. due to suspicion of a possibly stolen vehicle, police said. The chase lasted approximately two minutes before the suspect crashed on Renwick Drive near Gulfton Street.

Officials said the suspect hit a utility pole, taking down powerlines in the area. ABC13 sources have confirmed 3 other vehicles received damage, two of which suffered extensive damage.It is currently unclear if anyone else was hurt. As the Houston Police Department continues to investigate, nearby businesses with potential security cam footage are still without power.

In a statement, CenterPoint Energy announced that homes in the area are expected to be without power for five to eight more hours. So far, the area has been powerless for six hours. 23 customers are without power as crews continue to repair and replace the damaged equipment and restore service, CenterPoint said.
