She said the sea glass business has been going well — so well that she has started to find international appeal. She is currently preparing works for a customer in Australia. She has also sold pieces to customers in Japan, the United Kingdom and Cuba.

Her favourite piece is a poem she wrote, framed and bordered with sea glass. Shearer said the poem is about her love of the beach – the source of her materials.On top of fashioning and selling sea glass art, she has also taken to teaching classes on it at Alderberry Village. As the lady worked on her project, Shearer noticed a piece of driftwood that she had brought with her. Shearer suggested that she make a tree, using the driftwood as a tree trunk.While Shearer admits she may nudge her students in the right direction, she believes that each piece has its own originality.Carol Taggart is the director of the Alderberry Village Craft Cooperative. She spoke on Shearer’s classes.
