A 41-year-old Thunder Bay man was arrested for impaired driving after police used an ALPR system to identify his suspended licence.

Thunder Bay — It was during a routine traffic stop that OPP nabbed a suspended driver for being impaired behind the wheel. Around 10:30 am on Tuesday, Thunder Bay OPP was notified by their in-cruiser Automated License Plate Recognition ( ALPR ) hit that the registered owner of a vehicle was suspended. OPP conducted the traffic stop and determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol, which was confirmed by the use of a roadside test.

A 41-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing numerous charges related to driving with a suspended license, as well as various impaired charges. The accused had his driver's licence suspended, and the vehicle was impounded. This year's Festive RIDE Campaign runs until January 1, 2025. The OPP is reminding drivers to do their part during the campaign by never driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs and never letting anyone else drive if they know or suspect that they have consumed either. It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects whose case we do not expect to follow through to its conclusion in court
