A suspect involved in a "physical disturbance" at an apartment near Barton Creek Square Mall was taken to the hospital after being shot by an Austin police officer early Saturday morning.

Austin 911 received call reporting the disturbance just before 2 a.m. Two officers arrived at the Cliffs at Barton Creek Apartments, located at 3050 Tamarron Blvd., a few minutes later.A third officer approached the apartment from the back patio area. He looked through a sliding glass door and saw the two male suspects. One of the men walked to the front door, armed with a handgun.

The officer shouted the warning of “Gun gun gun!” to warn the officers at the front door. He then shot the suspect.The other man involved in the altercation opened the door and was removed from the apartment. Officers went inside and took the injured suspect into custody. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer that shot the suspect has seven months of experience with APD. He will be placed on administrative duty.APD will conduct two concurrent investigations into the officer-involved shooting: a criminal investigation conducted by the APD Special Investigations Unit in conjunction with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, and an administrative investigation conducted by the APD Internal Affairs Unit with oversight of the Office of Police Oversight.
