WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A suspect was arrested in West Lafayette for alleged sexual battery.officers responded to the West Lafayette Post Office on a report of sexual battery Saturday morning.
Officers spoke with a female who said a man approached her in a Walmart and asked for her help finding the local post office. The suspect convinced the victim to drive to the post office while he followed in his own vehicle, according to WLPD. When they got to the post office, the man allegedly reached into her car and assaulted her by touching her in a sexual manner. The woman fought back and began honking her horn for help. A good Samaritan saw what was happening and pulled the suspect away from the car.
According to WLPD, the victim credited her training in the Rape Aggression Defense Women's Self Defense Program to her safety and sense to alert others nearby.He is preliminarily charged with sexual battery, battery and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. WLPD said it is possible that this person has attempted or committed similar acts that have not been reported to the police. They are asking for anyone with information on this subject, or anyone else who has potentially been victimized by this person, to call them at 775-5200 or use the anonymous WeTip Hotline by calling 800-78-CRIME.
