Findings from a new Research Co. survey suggest Justin Trudeau is Canada's worst prime minister in the last 50 or so years.
Research Co.Thirty-eight per cent of those polled say Trudeau is their least favourite leader since 1968, more than double the 14 per cent showing their dislike for Stephen Harper, who placed second on the list.
“It’s a lot easier to be nostalgic about previous prime ministers, perhaps those who have passed on, like Brian Mulroney, and feel better about what they offered, relative to the fierce urgency of the now and issues and complaints people have and the ongoing volatility of public opinion as we face a federal election sooner rather than later. I think these are more of a way of focusing memory,” he tells CHEK News.
According to the professor, a few components could be behind Trudeau’s low ranking, including the fact that there is “seasonality” to government, meaning “the prime minister has sort of worn out his welcome, if you will.” Black says if Trudeau were to call it quits, it’s unclear whether a new leader would make a difference for the Liberals, but it may save them from potentially suffering a landslide loss.
