Mukhtiar Panghali strangled his wife, Manjit, in October 2006 and then burned her body.
This week’s parole board decision notes that Panghali, now 49, has undergone reintegration work and has a “solid basis for a successful release with a strong network of family who are willing to assist in all areas of release including employment and housing.”
The board granted Panghali eight-hour absences and no overnights, with a gradual increase in length of time over a one-year period. Manjit, 31, was last seen alive at a prenatal yoga class on Oct. 18, 2006. She was four months pregnant at the time of her murder. Her family requested only her first name be used in publication.
Before her body was found, her husband made a tearful plea before the media asking people to help find his wife.
