Surrey, B.C., councillor Brenda Locke is leading a MainStResearch poll for the city’s mayoral election, but the race is probably closer than it looks.

Locke is a former B.C. MLA and provincial cabinet minister; she has also run federally as a Liberal, with the support of 24 per cent of all poll respondents. Doug McCallum, the city’s sitting mayor, is in second place at 19 per cent. Sixty-nine per cent of the poll respondents — and nine per cent of McCallum’s own supporters — say they disapprove of his performance.
