Johnston was burgling a home in Surrey’s Bridgeview neighbourhood on March 10, 1998, when Fraser, a 43-year-old crane operator from New Westminster, surprised him. Johnston stabbed Fraser to death in such a frenzy that he broke two knife blades during the attack.Article content Officers befriended Johnston in 2009 while he was on parole in Trenton, Ont. They concocted roughly 60 scenarios in Ontario and Quebec over more than five months before finally getting him to confess to Fraser’s murder.
