The House could vote on a joint resolution sending the question to the ballot as soon as Wednesday. But the legislation setting up the August election is in limbo.

The Senate measure, SJR 2, has passed the Senate and its committee stop in the House. The only step left is a vote on the House floor. Meanwhile, the House measure, HJR 1, has yet to get a vote from the full House and would need Senate approval. The August electionThat May 10 deadline rushing up to greet them has to do with plans to put the question to voters in August. When the general assembly proposes an amendment, it has to be filed with the Ohio Secretary of State 90 days before the election. May 10 is lawmakers’ last chance if they want to hold an election on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in August.
After the second cancellation, state Rep. Bill Seitz, R-Cincinnati, acknowledged the August portion of the plan might not have the votes.
