The result for the junior girls squad is believed to be the best for a Thunder Bay school at the all-Ontario meet since 1987.
OTTAWA — The junior girls with the Superior Gryphons cross country running squad took home silver from the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championship meet on Nov. 4 in Ottawa.
“One of the commentators said that our junior girls team was two points out of the gold medal and that we were a team to watch,” Ailey said. “We’re competing against schools that are twice the size of us,” Ailey said. “It’s pretty wild for a small school like ours to have such a historic result. Vinet came home in 40th with Sdao, Lee and Hupka crossing the line 76th,85th and 138th respectively in a race that features 264 runners.
In addition to running on the busy course, the runners also had to deal with changing weather conditions.
