SUNY Downstate is a university campus with an attached hospital covering 13 acres, and has been located in East Flatbush on Clarkson AvenueThe campus was notably the first teaching hospital in the country when it first opened, and marked several milestones along the way, including launching the nation’s first federally funded dialysis unit in 1964, and establishing the first academic emergency medicine department in New York City in 1991.
