Program volumes are on the rise so that you will be ready for that 10K distance.

“Oh no, my car’s in the shop!” Trouble with the transmission after 395,000 km? We’ll see — but it has been a great car and I don’t think it’s on its last legs. Good thing neither am I as we head into Week 9 and our final climb to the Vancouver Sun Run.

So today, I’ve got my runners on and I’m thankful I can do my “brisk intervals” to get to the bank and pick up a few things for dinner tonight. I’ll have to “walk” to my track practice tonight instead of driving up the hill to get there. And tomorrow, I’ll have to walk to the bus stop and take transit to the airport for a chance to visit a terrific run/walk clinic in Kelowna.

This week: Kudos to those of you who are doing such a great job committed to your three times per week run/walk workouts. Try not to skip any sessions. If you’re experiencing any discomfort with the increases in workload, most of the time it’s a training effect and your body will adjust. But on that discomfort scale between 1 and 10, if you are sitting at a 4 and your discomfort is not subsiding, then slow down , and choose a program with less workload.

Meanwhile, isn’t it great to know you can always do your workout at the same time you have to take care of a few simple errands? “Have shoes will travel.”
