The winner of the Region III-6A final will punch a ticket to the state tournament.
“Just the will to want to win,” Summer Creek coach Carlesa Dixon said of how her team got the win. “They were really locked in from the beginning. We just wanted to come out and dominate and just follow the gameplan. We just had to execute, and we did that.”This was the first appearance in school history for Memorial at the Region III-6A tournament.
Memorial coach Jyusef Larry told his team in the locker room how proud he was of the effort the Lady Mustangs put forward all season on and off the court. “It was incredible,” Larry said of Memorial’s season. “The kids worked hard. For them to be able to be a part of something that has never been done before, it just shows how hard work wins and what you do every day matters. Our seniors are a special group, and the younger players learned a lot from them this season.”
Summer Creek’s defense held Memorial below 10 points in each of the first three quarters. Memorial scored eight points in the first quarter, nine points in the second and six points in the third.“They’re such a great shooting team, so to be able to hold them to that many was big for us,” Dixon said. “I gave my team props for that.
