Many examples of injured workers not being able to have a full life, says Jamie West
Sudbury MPP and NDP Labour critic Jamie West is pushing to have June 1 officially recognized as Ontario's Injured Workers Day.
The first workers’ day was actually held on June 1 in 1983 after a workers’ rally at the Legislature. "And so it's a small thing, but it's also the right thing to do. And it's a very easy thing to fix. And I'm proud to say that I've had conversations with Minister David Puccini, the Minister of Labour, and it looks very positive that we're gonna be able to pass this on Thursday," said West.
"I'm not doing the best with my back. I got a hard time to get around and I'm lucky I've got a partner that helps me. So you know, it's life. And as we go, we wish that it's gonna get better. But it's not gonna get better," said Mayhew. "This June 1, labour unions are urging the province to establish a central protection for those affected by workplace injuries and illnesses. These protections should include WSIB coverage for all workers, regardless of their status, and unrestricted access to health care," said Montgomery.
