The TEDx talk was my first real speaking event — I spent three months preparing for it — the stakes were high.
In retrospect, I would’ve probably tried to go to a later taping, but I’m super grateful we jumped at the opportunity. We received two offers on the show, but turned them down. I’ve always known where I wanted to take the business and am cautious when it comes to bringing on strategic partners. I didn’t leave the experience empty handed — I think the sharks are incredibly smart and know I was lucky to get one hour with five extremely successful business people.
Secure a trademark — it’s the silver bullet of IP enforcement and is more useful than you’d imagine. File for copyrights on all imagery as well. Trademarks and copyrights are easier to enforce than patents — they’re cut and dry, since you don’t need external validation. Now for the video. I get a lot of questions about this and my answer is always the same — keep it short. Make sure you’re answering the important questions and don’t let people get bored.
