Premier Doug Ford’s government is making the mayors of Toronto and Ottawa even stronger in a surprise move that dramatically undercuts the power of recently elected city councillors.
That means Toronto Mayor John Tory will be able to enact some policies with the support of far less than the simple majority required now.of the 26-member council comprising himself plus 25 councillors.
