Nishida said in an email to Insider that she has taught pilates classes since 2015, and thought she would finally be able to"quit her day job" when she got her first job as a staff writer in 2019. However, she said her writing colleagues quickly warned her of the risk she'd be taking if she quit her other job, as some had gone months or over a year between writing jobs.
"For as long as the strike lasts, I will be driving from Long Beach to LA — windows down, in a Honda Civic with a broken air conditioner that I can't afford to get fixed — to be on the picket line because I don't think people should have to work multiple jobs to pay rent or crowdfund to cover medical bills,"Nishida told Insider."I fully support the fight for fair wages.
