Stranger Things officially holds the record as the most-streamed show of 2022, according to new data. First released on Netflix in 2016, the Duffer Brothers' fantasy/ horror show would go on to become one of the streamer's most popular offerings. After an almost three-year wait since the previous season, Stranger Things season 4 was released on Netflix last year, following Eleven , Mike , Will , Lucas , Dustin , Max , Hopper , and the rest of the gang as they face off against Vecna .
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY According to new streamer data gathered by Nielson , Stranger Things is officially the most-streamed show of last year, clocking a staggering 52 billion minutes viewed. NCIS comes in at the number two spot with 38.1 billion minutes viewed and Cocomelon, a children's program, is third with 37.8 billion minutes viewed. Another Netflix original, Ozark, nabs the number 4 spot with 31.3 billion minutes viewed.
In addition to the show's blockbuster-level action and effects, the stars of Stranger Things have also grown in popularity. Brown, for example, has gone on to become known for being more than just Eleven, starring in the likes of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, and two Enola Holmes movies. Harbour and Ryder, as well, have experienced major career boosts thanks to Stranger Things. Crucially, the show also appeals to a very wide demographic.
Season 5 is set to be Stranger Things' last, and it's very likely that it will end up being an even bigger hit for Netflix than season 4. The season 4 finale ends on a fairly major cliffhanger with the fates of Max, Hawkins, and really the whole world hanging in the balance, which will undoubtedly lead to a strong viewer turnout when the new batch of episodes eventually lands on Netflix.
