Star Trek: Strange New Worlds showrunner Akiva Goldsman recently addressed the future of Star Trek television crossovers. Beginning in 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery, CBS sought to revitalize the multi-generational science-fiction franchise for television with writer-producer Alex Kurtzman leading the charge. In 2018, Kurtzman signed a five-year deal to focus on the franchise, later extending the deal to 2026.
